Charity Bells
Christmas is a time for giving
Charity Bells is a community arts project of the Northcote Business Association where local schools decorate fiberglass bells to compete for a prize for their school.
The decorated bells are then placed in High St Northcote shops to show off the children’s handiwork and at the same time acting as a symbol to encourage people to make donations to local charities.
The Northcote Business Association loves Christmas and the Christmas Bells is a great way for traders and their patrons to get into the spirit of the season and give what they can to those in need.
High Vibes
High Vibes is one of Melbourne’s best music festivals. As the finale of the Darebin Music Feast, this annual daylong festival showcases a huge selection of diverse and vibrant music in the arts and retail precinct of High St, Northcote.
With increasingly high profile bands playing at more than 20 venues and a growing number of outdoor music stages, this exciting day sees the closure of part of High St to enable the crowds to really celebrate.
The mass of people who attend the event (about 80,000 in 2008) and participation of up to 80 local High St traders create a true party atmosphere that simply has to be experienced.
Northern Exposure Visual Arts Festival
Northern Exposure is an exciting festival of visual arts that has to be seen to be believed.
Celebrating Northcote’s creative community, this unique festival unfolds over 3 days and includes visual art displays, artist talks, demonstrations, projections, installation works and artisans markets.
Created via collaboration between the Northcote Business Association and the City of Darebin’s Northcote Town Hall, Northern Exposure is the perfect excuse to enjoy the abundant High St galleries, visit community venues or simply relax in the many high quality bars, cafes and retail spaces hosting the events.
Over 30 High St shop fronts also feature an eclectic mix of window installations and artistic works as part of the festival’s feature event, High Views. With a huge range of artworks from professional to primary school student on sale, Northern Exposure is also a rare opportunity to find an artwork to appeal to every taste and budget.
NIFFTY - Northcote Independent Fashion Festival
NIFFTY is Northcote’s Independent Fashion Festival showcasing the quirky and eclectic mix of fashion and design retailers located along High St, Northcote.
With everything from vintage to cutting edge contemporary, this diverse fashion event centres around a series of fashion parades hosted at the Northcote Town Hall.
It includes an inspiring selection of work by local designers as well as a great mix of well-known Australian and overseas designers. In addition to the fashion parade extravaganza, NIFFTY includes performances by local musicians decked out in Northcote threads, a local designer and retailer market place and food and wine stalls.
