Planning a more beautiful Northcote

Focusing on the Northcote Activity Centre, Darebin Council’s Northcote Streetscape Masterplan will give the community a more attractive streetscape, safer and improved walking environments with more seating and shade, and more public space to enjoy.

In a press release issued by Darebin City Council, Darebin Mayor, Cr Diana Asmar said, “This Masterplan sets out an overall streetscape design to improve the look, feel and safety of Northcote.”

When you consider that a recent survey of 700 High St shoppers found that two thirds of people walked, rode bicycles or caught public transport to the shopping district it is little wonder that improved pedestrian comfort has been made a top priority.

The Northcote community eagerly awaits the enhanced public spaces, greener entry to Northcote and celebration of Northcote’s identity that the masterplan will bring.
